Hello To All,

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT
Last Thursday night we had the pleasure of having Kate Thwaites Federal Member of the Labour Party, representing the local seat of Jaga Jaga at the club along with her staff with an announcement of $3m towards the upgrade of the pavilion. Whilst there is a condition on the Labour party winning the national election on May 21 it is pleasing we are on the radar across Federal, State & Local Government with all parties receiving our business plan towards capital improvements at Shelley Reserve.

Should we be successful the financial contribution is pivotal if we are to maintain our status as a leading sporting club within the area. We view this as further building stronger ties with our local community groups in future years with the use of a modern facility encouraging multi-purpose use across all age groups.

Hopefully we receive favourable news without declaring your political allegiance you know what to do & if successful we have something to aspire to in the future.

Lighting Improvements
Ground & Car Park lighting upgrades are expected to start post season according to the latest information from Banyule Council & its capital budget allocation for the 2023 FY.

FOOTBALL
Two out of three ain’t bad as someone once sang, with the seniors recording their first win of 2022 & the U19s recording two on the go.

U19s
Recorded a solid victory against Banyule & played some terrific football in the 1st half to have the game wrapped up by 3/4 time however our last quarter we let the opposition in with some late scores therefore Rooster & Craig have plenty to work with here to keep the focus.

We are still after some extra numbers to keep the list healthy for the inevitable injury curse, unavailability or senior selection so anyone out there reading this who might be interested in playing with a good group of lads you would be walking into a handy side.

DEVELOPMENT
Started really well to lead at quarter time but lost their way before coming back later in the game. A few costly errors were the difference between the two sides and is something we must learn from.

Certainly has been an improvement so hang in there & a win is not far away.

SENIORS
Under lights at Westgarth St & we launched off quickly & were playing with plenty of enthusiasm as Northcote Park threw everything at us. Overall a workmanlike performance where we broke it open late in the 3rd to record a six goal win.

We would have taken that prior to the game after the week earlier, there was a bit of steel & resolve with this win & hopefully gets our season underway where for all 10 clubs early wins are worth double. There are no “gimme” games in this division so we need to be prepared & switched on as much as possible if we are to remain in the top half.

Coming Up:
FRIDAY APRIL 15
Here is your Easter Footy Fix.

NETBALL
Netball trials were held over the summer & another session a fortnight ago & numbers are looking strong at this point setting the standard for another big year ahead. The ladies can be very proud of their achievement in season 2021 & we look forward to what the new season brings.

The season kicks off Friday, April 22.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL
The season takes a break this weekend after R2 for our affiliated clubs Bundoora Park, West Ivanhoe & Yarrambat JFCs & to our Doggies supporters keep an eye on the fortunes of these clubs during the year.

They are the next generation of youngsters looking to enter senior football & we provide a great pathway evident with the success of the U19s in season 2021 with high representation from Bundoora Park & Yarrambat & we aspire for that to occur for many years to come.
